Secret Wars Does New York

1st Night - MISSION

The first few days were meant to be a chance for all of us to find our feet, relax, prep for the upcoming shows and to just enjoy the experience ahead of us. Sadly one man stood in our way. Jerry, if you're reading this, I hope you're ashamed of yourself. Sadly I can't say what's really on my mind or that of the other members because our lawyers have advised us not to.

Our agent, the man in charge of sorting ou accomodation out was a major pain in the ass. He'd clearly read the Hitler guide on "How to be a Letting Agent" (Not a Best-Seller)

Luckily, between us all, there were more than enough helpful contacts to make sure we were taken care of until things were eventually sorted.

Ecko Party
The first party on our list of things to do was probably the biggest. Set up as a way of generating PR, famous friends and members of the press were invited to Ecko HQ for a Monorex Vs Ecko battle.

Artists from the Ecko and Zoo York branch were recruited and taken to undisclosed loaction by Mr Marc Ecko himself to discuss tactics. After days of trying to figure out where to hit us hard, they chose to go for the obvious....our teeth!?

Monorex, led by Disco Teck, Alfa and Jimi C went for something a little more high brow, by taking the Latin meaning of Monorex 'One King' and drawing out Henry VII in front of a banquet, with the famous Ecko rhino as the main dish.

Of course the crowd needed a little history lesson before they could understand what was going on. Sadly the teeth jibe was just too strong to ignore and New York ran away with the the victory (But we ran away with their women).

The night was a huge success with everyone making valuable contacts. As security cleared out Marc's office, a few select people were left with the remaining alcohol, a DJ, a bunch of cheerleaders and a ping-pong!!!

DTA,GSD,ATG on a Rampage
We'd hooked up with Jasper and Dom from Rogue Status for a big part of our trip. They were there doing their own thing, as were we and we got together for some serious antics, which saw NY covered in DTA and Rogue Status stickers. Check out their blog for more pics including a gang fight, which saw 2 of our members get sandwiched in between.

Reebok
Reebok have been one of Secret Wars biggest supporters, which is why they got on board for the NY tour by getting the guys to do a little bit of customizing at one of their accounts situated in the heart of the shopping district. The guys attracted a huge crowd.

Gallery Bar
This was to be Jimi, Alfda and Tecks first New York show. Used to having exhibitions back home, the guys felt no pressure whilst preparing their work. However with less time on their hands to complete their canvases, it took a little extra something from the artists to make sure their work was up to their usual standards.

They didn't dissapoint

Public Assembly
This was the second NY Vs LDN battle. This was our chance to win something back for the UK. The guys brainstormed an award-winning idea. A take on the classic movie 'The Warriors' the Monorex artists decided to draw the Cricket Furies in a good ol' London cab along with President Obama, giving us his full backing.

The Americans decided to go all out war, which isn't usually like them!! The NY artists, new to the Secret Wars concept, still battled their hardest and enjoyed the whole experience. Sadly they were no match for team UK, as the guys pulled out all the stops. The judges were taken out of it and it was down to the crowd. It was close, sadly close wasn't good enough,as London stole the Victory!!!! Brrrraap!!!!

Reeps 1
Reeps found himself in a great and unique situation. As well as being needed in NY, he had also reached the final of of the UK beat boxing championship. On one hand he could be performing at the Brooklyn Hip-Hop festival (which was still yet TBC) Or he could be fighting his way to be crowned numero uno UK beatboxer. Decision, decisions. In the end, he chose to leave the Secret Wars camp and take part in the finals. This was one of the toughest decisions he's had to make, but luckily he'd made the right one.

He arrived back in the UK, had a little rest and got straight back into it. He stormed his way through the tournament and as we all knew he would, won the prestigious comp. Well done Reeps!
